First impressions are made before you've even finished the handshake. According to a study held by Princeton university psychologists Jamie wills, your trustworthiness, competence, attractiveness, aggressiveness, and liability has been judged within less than one second.(Jeffrey S. Nevid, 2008, Psychology concepts and applications)
A study by the University of Texas and Sonoma State University found that levels of extroversion, self-esteem, and how religious you are can be judged from your physical appearance.(Vol 35, p 1661, Bulletin of Personality and Social Psychology)
A survey conducted by TheLadders.co.uk management careers company found that 37% of senior male and female executives conducting interviews had decided against hiring a candidate due to the way they were dressed. Traditional formal interview dress is more likely to impress them where as casual dress is a turn off..
Good grooming accounted for more favourable hiring decisions rather than qualifications. With 95% of executives deeming orange as an inappropriate colour, pink was close behind with 83% of executives disapproving. “Stick to safe corporate colours navy, black. Wear a feminine skirt suit or dress and jacket. Keep heels elegant rather than teeteringly high. Keep make up soft, Beware of showing too much cleavage or leg and of dressing too casually. Aim to be well groomed, elegant and professional, you will have more confidence and this will come across to the interviewer. ”Gabrielle Teare - Fashion Stylist

Ahh, I'm graduating in a few weeks and I've got some interviews lined up, so it's good to know how to make a good impression with not only what I say but with the colour of my clothes. I didn't realise that colour had a strong impact psychologically. Thanks
