I've just completed my degree in Events Management but don't have the confidence to apply for a job within that field as I lack experience and feel I'm not quite there yet.. Any advice please?
Get volunteering or offering yourself to smaller event companies for free - get to know what events companies are out there, what they do, what they offer, and which sector of the market they work in. Gain experience and decided which aspect of event management suits you. You’ve been awarded a degree for a reason now add some meat onto those bones with experience in the industry. Good luck!
Network with people in the field and ask them about their journey. ie how they started, why they chose a certain path, any advice to give you. LinkedIn is a good place to start networking if you don't already know someone in the field.
Hey Gurus! I'm moving down to London in the summer however I've been offered a 3 week volunteer position with a media company in Barcelona. Do you think the position would be beneficial for a future job hunt in London within the events industry?
Hey Chrissie! Although I've only a few years within the events industry, I have worked in over four countries and believe that each experience has enabled me to not only generate beneficial personal and work related connections, but has given me the edge over other graduates. Granted you may be out of pocket though and may need to delay your move so you need to weigh up the pros and cons and decide which you want more. If money isn’t an issue then take the position abroad, if you’re keen to get going in London and believe it won’t be beneficial then leave it
I'm very confused with how they work out our grades. Can you shed some light on this? It's so unfair that first year grades aren't included as I did really well in my first year! If i knew they weren't included I wouldve had some fun instead!! ;)
Hi Milva! The way your degree is worked out is quite simple. Drop your lowest grade from second and third year as it doesn't count at all. The percentages below vary depending on the university and some times the course.
This is a rough guide though
1st year = 0% but you must pass 100/120 credits to go level 2 2nd year = 25% again you need to pass 100/120 credits. 3rd year = 75% and you need to really pass 120 credits.
40% = 3rd 50% = 2:2 60% = 2:1 70% = 1st
